The University landed higher this time as it clinched the 145th spot from last year’s 157th, in this year’s ranking of top Asian universities of British consultancy Quacquarelli-Symonds (QS).

UST trailed behind state-run University of the Philippines which remained as the top university in the country, placing 75th among Asian universities. Meanwhile, Ateneo de Manila University placed 95th from last year’s 99th. They were the only two Philippine universities in the top 100.

Moreover, De La Salle University jumped nine places higher from last year’s 143rd to 134th.

Aside from the “big four” mainstays, two other Philippine universities made it in the list.

Siliman University, which made it in the 251–300 bracket last year, slipped to 351–400. On the other hand, University of San Carlos remained in the 301–350 bracket.

Only UST received four-QS stars rating for performing excellently in terms of employability, facilities, social responsibility, and inclusiveness.

Nanyang Technological University was named as this year’s top Asian university, after ascending from 3rd place. Last year’s top school National University of Singapore placed 2nd this time.

QS follows 10 indicators for the annual ranking:

  • academic reputation (30%)
  • employer reputation (20%)
  • faculty-student ratio (15%)
  • citations per paper (10%)
  • papers per faculty (10%)
  • staff with a PhD (5%)
  • international faculty (2.5%)
  • international students (2.5%)
  • inbound exchange students (2.5%)
  • outbound exchange students (2.5%)

The QS Asian University Rankings was published since 2009, featuring 400 universities this year from 17 countries in Asia.
