UST improves in 2023 QS Asia University Rankings

The University secured a spot among the country’s leading higher educational institutions (HEIs) in the 2023 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings released on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

UST ranked fourth among the top universities in the Philippines and 175th overall in Asia.

The University was also given a five-star rating by the QS, the second-highest merit in the QS Stars system.

For the past three years, the University has consistently risen in the QS Asia University rankings. UST previously ranked 177th in the QS Asia Rankings 2022, nine places higher from its 186th rank in 2021.

Among the leading Philippine HEIs in the said rankings are the University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), and De La Salle University (DLSU).

UP topped the national list at 87th place, followed by ADMU at 134th then DLSU at 171st.

The recent QS Asia University Rankings featured 760 Asian universities with Peking University clinching the top spot this year.

QS Rankings used 11 key indicators to assess Asian universities:

  • Academic reputation (30%)
  • Employer reputation (20%)
  • Faculty/student ratio (10%)
  • International research network (10%)
  • Citations per paper (10%) and papers per faculty (5%)
  • Staff with a PhD (5%)
  • Proportion of international faculty (2.5%) and proportion of international students (2.5%)
  • Proportion of inbound exchange students (2.5%) and proportion of outbound exchange students (2.5%)
