UST falls to unblemished NU, misses SSL finals berth
By Deinell Vincent Esplana
The UST Golden Tigresses failed to take down the UAAP Season 84 Women’s Volleyball Champs NU Lady Bulldogs, 23–25, 25–23, 21–25, 17–25, in their Shakey’s Volleyball Super League Semifinal knock-off match-up held at Rizal Memorial Coliseum, Friday afternoon.
This loss eliminated the Golden Tigresses from championship contention.
UST had no answer for the offense and defense of the last season’s Best Opposite Spiker, Alyssa Solomon who tallied 15 points to help the Lady Bulldogs secure a finals seat.
The Golden Tigresses avoided a set sweep by winning a close second set, 25–23, behind the offensive effort of Regina Jurado. This is only the second time that NU lost a set in their SSL campaign.
After a close back-and-forth action in the first three sets, NU’s experience advantage over UST proved crucial as they slowly pulled away late in the match eventually taking the fourth set, 25–17.
The Golden Tigresses will face the loser of the match between AdU and DLSU in a bronze medal match next Saturday, Nov. 19, at the same venue.
