Tigresses vent ire on Fighting Maroons for third win
By Rob Andrew Dongiapon
Following a horrific show against the Adamson Lady Falcons last Wednesday, the UST Golden Tigresses (3–2) blanked the UP Fighting Maroons (1–4), 25–17, 25–23, 25–20, to snag their third win in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament, Saturday afternoon at the Philsports Arena in Pasig .
Team captain Eya Laure led the way with 14 points off 10 attacks, while Imee Hernandez backed her up with 11 markers to lift UST in the bounce-back victory.
Reactivated as a spiker for this game, Milena Alessandrini also poured 10 points after being listed as a libero in UST’s loss last Wednesday where none of the Golden Tigresses scored in double digits.
The Tigresses zoomed to a strong start early on by dominating the first set, 25–17.
Although the Fighting Maroons found their groove in the second frame to come within striking distance of UST, the Golden Tigresses still managed to salvage their winning attacks in the second set to pull away with the 25–23 set victory.
From there, UST’s mastery proved to be too much for the Lady Maroons as errors caught up on UP, surrendering 25 throughout the matchup to the Tigresses’ 17, as the third and final set wrapped up, 25–20.
UST is set to face the Ateneo Blue Eagles (1–3) on Wednesday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
