Two games in, two wins in for the ladies.
The UST Golden Tigresses escaped the UE Lady Warriors in straight sets, 25–16, 25–22, and 25–20 in the first round of the UAAP Season 84 Women’s Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, May 7 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
Despite a closely contested second set, 25–22, the third set saw three consecutive errors from the Lady Warriors that let the Tigresses inch closer to their eventual five-point victory and a sweep over the former.
These errors, plus another one following a Janine Lana conversion, allowed a Kecelyn Galdones block and a Ysa Jimenez spike to be the killing blows en route to a perfect 2–0 card for the Tigresses, 25–20.
This outing, however, was no cakewalk for the Tigresses, who at points saw the women in red keeping it tight with them especially in the final two sets of play thanks to Lana and teammate Dalrymple Lingay.
Similar to their season opener, it was Eya Laure and Camille Victoria leading UST with 18 and 13 points, respectively. Galdones and Jimenez, whose back-to-back points completed the sweep, had seven markers apiece.
UE, on the other hand, was kept alive by Lana and Lingay with 17 and 12 points, respectively, to their names.
UST now guns for a third-straight win against the also unbeaten UP Lady Maroons on Tuesday, May 9 at 10 AM at the same venue.
