Tigers to field returning Adama Faye as import for UAAP Season 85
By Ernest Martin Tuazon
Adama Faye will serve as the Growling Tigers’ foreign-student athlete (FSA) for UAAP Season 85, Institute of Physical Education and Athletics director Fr. Rodel Cansancio confirmed to TomasinoWeb on Sept. 15, Thursday evening.
Faye was set to suit up for the Tigers last Season 84 to replace former MVP Soulemane Chabi Yo, but fled the country three months before the tournament began in late March.
The six-foot-eight Senegal big is set to bolster the front court of the University with the likes of key holdovers Sherwin Concepcion, Christian Manaytay, and Bryan Santos following its seventh-place finish last season (3–11 win-loss record).
With the abrupt exit of Filipino-American center Gani Stevens and fellow FSA Willie Wilson who took their services to the UE Red Warriors, Faye will join six-foot-seven center Hinda Maye Tounkara in the pool of imports of the University.
Adama was present in the Growling Tigers media shoot for the upcoming season and has also taken part in the team’s 84–82 pre-season victory over MPBL’s GenSan Warriors.
Season 85, with its debut sport being the men’s basketball tournament, will begin on Oct. 1, Saturday. As of writing, no official announcement has been made on the league’s tournament schedule.
