The University of Santo Tomas Tiger Spikers stunned the University of the Philippine Fighting Maroons, 25–17, 25–22, 25–15, in the 2017 PVL Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena Saturday.

Tiger Spikers registered 36 attack points compared to UP’s 19.

“Masaya ako ngayon, nage-effort. First win, hinahayaan ko sila mag jell muna,” Tiger Spikers head coach Odjie Mamon said. “Malaki improvement doon sa middle namin.”

Down 0–2 in the third set, UST’s Manuel Medina sparked a 17–5 run to provide a breather, 17–7. Joshua Umandal ended the match with a powerful off-the-block kill, 25–15.

Rookie Umandal scored game-high 13 with points while Arnold Bautista added eight markers.

Nicolo Consuelo and Wendel Miguel led UP with eight points apiece.

UST will next face the De La Salle Green Archers on Monday, Sept. 4, at the same venue.
