Tiger Shuttlers conquer AdU, succumb to UE

The University of Santo Tomas Tiger Shuttlers took split wins against the Adamson University Soaring Falcons and the University of the East Red Warriors in the UAAP Season 80 badminton tournament at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall last Oct. 1.

The Male Shuttlers swept the Soaring Falcons, 5–0, while the Female Shuttlers fell short against the Red Warriors, 2–3.

“Wala nang adjustment. Ito nalang yung tanging pag-asa namin dahil yung natitira nalang sa girls ‘yung Ateneo. ‘Yun battle for last ‘yun eh,” UST head coach RJ Ormilla said.

“Hindi sila fighter eh. Nagkatalo lang talaga kung sino gusto manalo. Hindi mas magaling ‘yung kalaban eh. Nagkataon lang talaga na mas gustong manalo ng ibang team kesa sa mga players ko,” he added.

The Male Shuttlers took a straight win as Cris Sanchez, John Yabut, and John Edgar Reyes swept all single events.

Reyes then pair with Mark Sotea to defeat Kevin Fabros and Jhonrick Macabenta, 26–24, 21–17.

UE’s Lyra Rosal outplayed Female Shuttler Elizabeth Pimentel in the fifth game to seal the match, 16–21, 21–19, 21–16.

The UST Male and Female Shuttlers will face the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, on Thursday, Oct. 5, at the same venue.
