Junior Golden Booters fail to keep up with Baby Tamaraws, incur second loss
By Joie Frances Timbas
The UST Junior Golden Booters went scoreless in the second half of play to fall to the defending champions FEU Baby Tamaraws, 1–2, in the UAAP Season 85 high school boys football tournament, held Sunday afternoon at the UP Diliman Football Field.
In the first half, the physical play from the Baby Tamaraws was penalized. There were multiple times that the Junior Golden Booters had the chance to score at the penalty, but the defense of FEU was quite tight which led to multiple saves.
UST also provided a tight defense as the Tamaraws were too close to score the match's first point.
After a series of close calls, UST called first blood as the attackers managed to get through the defense and score the match's first goal off a rebound from the crossbar.
Right before halftime, FEU was able to tie the game off a goal from the left wing. The teams entered the dugout with FEU having the momentum.
After the short break, the Tams maintained their momentum in the second half, scoring another goal to take the lead, 2–1.
With multiple close calls to equalize the game, UST’s luck ran out as the match ended. They were unable to score during halftime which caused them the game.
The Junior Golden Booters look to avoid a severe losing streak as they face the Ateneo Blue Eagles next on Sunday, Feb. 5, at the same venue.
