Growling Tigresses survive Ateneo’s scare

The University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigresses walloped the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles, 71–65, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum Wednesday.

Lon Rivera sparked a 11–2 in the fourth quarter to lead Ateneo, 62–47.

UST’s Jhenn Angeles secured their fourth win with a twin free throws, 71–65.

“With the standing of course I am happy but with the way we played I am not happy,” UST head coach Haydee Ong said.

Angeles led UST with 20 points while Sai Larosa contributed 14 markers.

Go paced Ateneo with 26 points and eight rebounds.

UST’s next game will be against the De La Salle University Archers on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the same venue.
