The University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigresses suffered their first loss of the season against the defending champion National University Lady Bulldogs, 65–95, in UAAP Season 80 women’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Wednesday.

UST ran out of gas in the last two quarters, handing the game to the Lady Bulldogs, 95–65.

“Bumigay eh. That’s the term. Very frustrating for us coaches, we have prepared them for that game, syempre we expect them to fight all the way until the end of the buzzer,” UST head coach Haydee Ong said.

“The remaining games that we have I mean kailangan must win for us para we’re still in contention,” she added.

Jhenn Angeles took a buzzer-beater three-point shot to cut NU’s lead to three, 38–41, into the halftime break.

Trixie Antiquera scored game-high 27 points leading NU to their 51st straight win.

Tigress Anjel Anies led UST with 18 points in a losing effort while Bets Penaflor contributed 14 markers.

The Growling Tigresses will next face the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the same venue.
