The University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses dominated the San Sebastian College — Recoletos Lady Stags in straight sets,25–16, 25–21, 25–18, to notch their second win in the 2022 Shakey’s Super League held at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Saturday morning, October 1.
Coming off a five-set thriller victory over Adamson, the Lady Tigresses set the tone right away as they built an early 12-point lead, 17–5, capped off by a service ace from Bianca Plaza in the first set.
San Sebastian tried to keep the match close in the following set, even taking the lead over UST, 16–15, via a Roxanne Tan off-the-block kill. But the rookie-laden Tigresses proved to be too much to handle for the Lady Stags, eventually taking the set, 25–21.
The Tigress held on tight of their momentum to make quick work of the Stags in the third and final set, 25–18.
Player of the game Regina Jurado paved the way for the Tigresses, scoring eight points, including the spike that ended the match in favor of UST.
Missing two of its key players due to injury, including team captain Bernadette Pepito, the rookie-laden Tigresses leaned on capitalizing over the errors of San Sebastian to bag the win.
With this win, UST goes up 2–0 in the standings to gain solo first in Pool B.
The Golden Tigresses will try to continue their undefeated streak against Emilio Aguinaldo College on October 16, at the same venue.
