Five engineering programs receive accreditation
Five programs of the Faculty of Engineering received full accreditation last Oct. 10 from the country’s signatory to an international agreement on engineering education.
The Philippine Technological Council (PTC), the sole organization approved by the Commission on Higher Education to be the signatory to the Washington Accord, granted accreditation to the following programs: civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, and industrial engineering.
The accreditation of the five programs is valid until 2021.
The chemical engineering program was already given full recognition last 2015 and for the years 2020 to 2021.
An engineering course should have program educational objectives and specific program criteria in order to receive accreditation.
Established in 1978, PTC is the only organization mandated to recognize engineering programs based on the Washington Accord-compliant certification and accreditation system for engineering education.
The Washington Accord was first signed by Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States in 1989. — C.N. Dumaua
