Sociologist Clarence Batan of the Faculty of Arts and Letters was re-elected as the president of the Philippine Sociological Society (PSS) for 2018.

Batan expressed his gratitude for giving him another chance to lead the organization during its annual conference last Oct. 7.

“It is a huge honor to lead a group of Filipino sociologists, current colleagues and emerging ones. I am very pleased to facilitate activities in promoting Sociology as academic discipline, shared profession, and practice,” he said in an online interview with TomasinoWeb.

Some of the plans of the organizations include the development of its website and acceptance of online submissions for their official journal Philippine Sociological Review.

PSS will also implement the Research on Community Engagements Grants, which will allow any student, member of the faculty, or practitioner to submit research papers on community engagements for the annual conference of the organization.

Batan, who also teaches at the UST Graduate School, is the director of the UST Research Center on Culture, Education, and Social Issues. — A. Ortega
