Angelicum QC signs UST integration
by Philip Jamilla
Angelicum College in Quezon City is now one of the five Dominican schools in the country set to be integrated with the University.
Earlier today, June 29, officials from the two schools signed the memorandum of agreement for the integration, with the college to be renamed UST Angelicum.
University Rector Fr. Herminio Dagohoy, O.P. is to lead as rector and chief executive officer, while Fr. Ferdinand Bautista, O.P., former Angelicum rector, will serve as chief operating officer.
Angelicum’s Board of Trustees will be dissolved and replaced by a board composed of 12 representatives from the University and three from Angelicum.
Both Tigers, different lairs
In his speech during the signing, Dagohoy said that “[this] is just the beginning of a long process of seeking approval from many [authoritative] bodies.”
Nonetheless, the rector assured that University will assist in strengthening Angelicum’s “unique and pioneering pedagogy” by introducing and implementing new programs and policies while maintaining its non-graded education system.
Furthermore, Dagohoy emphasized that the integration is a celebration of unity.
“Angelican Thomasians, Thomasian Angelicans — it does not matter. Both are Tigers, only living in different lairs,” he said.
Five in one
December last year, Dagohoy approved the request of Aquinas University of Legazpi to be renamed UST Legazpi as part of the integration.
The renaming, Dagohoy said, is still subject to the approval of the Securities and Exchange Commission. He hopes it could take effect in the coming academic year.
The rector also announced the University’s plans to supervise the Pharmacy and Medical Technology programs of Aquinas University. Aquinas will maintain its fiscal independence and administration.
Aside from Angelicum College, Quezon City and Aquinas University of Legazpi, the integration will also include Angelicum College Iloilo as well as UST’s future satellite campuses in Santa Rosa, Laguna and General Santos City.
