Advertising senior bags top 10 spot in filmmaking contest

A Thomasian short film made its way to the top 10 list of this year’s Cinema One Minute Student Film Competition, besting more than 400 students entries from all over the country.
Advertising senior and TomasinoWeb photographer Hannah Francesca Arboleda is among the finalists of the competition with the pseudo-thriller Maliit na Bagay.
Directed by fellow Advertising senior Jana Jodloman and starring Josh Macanas, also an Advertising senior, Maliit na Bagay features a man overwhelmed with paranoia over his unfinished business with his enemy — a cockroach.
“We never thought na makakapasok kami kasi wala sa isip naming yun, we were just enjoying what we we’re doing,” Arboleda said in an online interview with TomasinoWeb.
The one-minute film took her team almost 6 hours to shoot, all because they have difficulty acquiring their star.
“Kaya kami natagalan kasi nanghuli pa kami ng ipis,” she said.
Nonetheless, Arboleda said that they simply “enjoy[ed] the whole process.”
“Never naming inisip na competition [ito] kaya we didn’t pressure ourselves. Iba talaga yung outcome pag gusto and masaya ka sa ginagawa mo,” she added.
Arboledo and her team is now seeking the support of their fellow Thomasians to share their film online since it will be the deciding factor on who will win the competition. The winner will be announced on Nov. 19.
Maliit na Bagay is produced by the College of Fine Arts and Design’s MYM Productions.
The Cinema One Minute Student Film Competition is part of the Cinema One Originals Independent Film Festival which runs in selected theaters every November.
